Clashes broke out on Tuesday afternoon between protesting students and law enforcement officers in front of the Bangladesh Secretariat, leading to the use of sound grenades and tear gas to disperse the crowd.
The confrontation occurred around 4:10 PM, shortly after students forcibly entered the Secretariat premises by breaking open the main gate at approximately 3:45 PM.
Once inside, several parked vehicles were reportedly vandalized by the protesters, prompting a swift response from security forces.
Members of the police and army moved in to evict the students from the premises. As the students were pushed outside, a series of chase-and-retreat confrontations took place between both sides.
In an attempt to regain control, law enforcement deployed sound grenades and tear gas shells.
The protest was part of a broader demonstration sparked by outrage over the delayed announcement of the postponement of HSC exams following Monday’s fatal fighter jet crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara, which left at least 31 dead and over 165 injured.
