Reopening factories will boost infection: Health Minister

Coronavirus infection will increase again due the reopening of export-related industries including RMG factories amid the ongoing restrictions, said health minister Zahid Maleque.

No registration will be required from August 1 and only showing NID cards will be considered as the eligibility to get the shot.

He said this while attending a program held at Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) auditorium in capital’s Mohakhali area on Sunday (August 1).

“Workers have joined work as the RMG factories were reopened since Sunday. However, compliance of safety guidelines was absent. As a result, the infection will rise again. But, livelihood is necessary for lives,” the health minister said.

Mentioning no scope to increase Covid bed the minister said, “Northern part of the country has been witnessing fewer infection rate. The infection is stable in central part and increasing in eastern part.”

“Many countries reopened businesses and closed. Australia imposed curfew. US lifted the rules to wear mask and imposed again. Restaurants are opened in some places while also closed somewhere. Every nation is facing similar condition. For that reason, we have to stay alert that the infection might not spread. Because, if the infection rate increases, death rate will climb,” Zahid Maleque said.

At least one crore people will be vaccinated in next week. The immunization campaign will start August 7. None needs to register for vaccine. Only bringing the NID card is enough. If anyone does not have NID card, special arrangement will be taken,” he furthered.
