Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the Secretary General of BNP, has made a bold statement, saying that the only way to break free from corruption and fascism is by restoring democracy.
Fakhrul made these remarks during a blanket distribution event organized by Thakurgaon Municipal BNP at the public library ground on Tuesday, December 24.
The event was covered by The Daily Star Bangla Online.
In his speech, Fakhrul emphasized that true democracy, where the people are in control, is the only way out of the country`s current struggles with corruption and fascism.
He said, “There is no other way to escape from this situation except running the country through a parliament elected by the people.”
When asked about those involved in violence, corruption, or terrorist activities, he made it clear that such individuals do not have a place in BNP.
"Those who are involved in genocide, corruption, or terrorist activities have no place in our party," he said.
Fakhrul also criticized the government for not doing enough to help people in the cold regions of northern Bangladesh.
He said, “We expected the government to take the proper steps to distribute warm clothing in these cold-hit areas, but so far, we haven’t seen much initiative from the local administration.”
The blanket distribution event also saw the presence of Thakurgaon Municipal BNP President Mohammad Shariful Islam, General Secretary Tarek Adnan, and other party members.
