The rumour that seven letters will be dropped from the Bangla alphabet from next year has split the internet -- but the authorities ruled it out.
This comes as as screenshot of a message saying that seven letters will be dropped went viral.
However, Selina Hossain, president of Bangla Academy, said that someone faked and spread it claming that it was sent from the academy.
People were spreading the screenshot on social media and criticising the government for taking such a decision.
The screenshot said that from 2024, three alphabets of Swarabarna and four alphabets of Banjanbarna would be dropped.
Selina Hossain said, "I don't know anything about this. I just heard about it. Bangla Academy did not take any such decision. Those who are spreading such message are spreading rumors."
