Sarjis Alam, General Secretary of the July Shaheed Memorial Foundation, has issued a strong warning that no one will be let off the hook if they go against the ideals of the people‍‍`s uprising, not even Nobel laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

During a speech at a program in Rajshahi on Saturday, December 14, Sarjis said, "We won’t forgive anyone who betrays the cause of the uprising, and that includes Yunus. We don’t follow anyone blindly, nor are we power-hungry. If, in good conscience, we believe someone is undermining the uprising, even if it’s Yunus, we won’t hesitate to speak out against them."

Sarjis Alam was speaking at an event organized at the Rajshahi Shilpakala Academy, where financial aid was distributed to the families of 46 people killed during the student-led uprising in the Rajshahi division.

The July Shaheed Memorial Foundation provided each family with financial assistance amounting to five lakh taka.

Sarjis Alam, along with officials, personally handed over the checks to the families present at the event.

In his speech, Sarjis also touched on the topic of justice for the martyrs of the 2024 uprising, saying, "If we didn’t need to exhume the bodies of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members to seek justice for their deaths, why should we need to exhume the bodies of those who were martyred in 2024, who were killed under Hasina’s orders? We won’t allow the bodies of our martyrs to be disturbed."

He went on to address the Ministries of Home Affairs and Law, saying, "Those brothers gave their lives for a new Bangladesh, and it’s their sacrifice that allows you to sit in your positions today. You cannot exhume their bodies in front of their grieving families."

Sarjis Alam also made it clear that anyone who tries to block the trials of the murder cases related to the uprising will be considered just as guilty as the killers themselves.

He further warned about the relationship between Bangladesh and India, saying, "Sheikh Hasina boasts that India will forever be grateful for what she has given them. But let me tell you, the future of the relationship between Bangladesh and India will depend on your actions. The murderer Hasina, who killed so many of our people and fled, who was ousted by the people of Bangladesh, has found shelter in your country. If you want good relations with Bangladesh, you must stop giving her refuge and return her to face justice."

Several other prominent figures spoke at the event, including Khandaker Azim Ahmed, the Divisional Commissioner of Rajshahi, and Alamgir Hossain, DIG of the Rajshahi Range. Meherab Sifat, a member of the Central Coordination Committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, also addressed the crowd, along with Mobashir Uz Zaman and Mahin Sarkar.

The event was attended by high-ranking officials including Abu Sufiyan from the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police and District Commissioner Afia Akter.
