Shakib Al Hasan hit the 7000-run mark against Ireland in the opening ODI of the three-match series on Saturday (March 18), becoming the second player from his country after Tamim Iqbal.
Before the match, the left-handed batsman needed 24 runs to reach the milestone; he finally did so in the 20th over when he singled off Curtis Campher's bowling after driving a full-length delivery down the ground. He reached the achievement in his 228th match while batting in his 216th innings, 12 more than the number of innings Tamim played to hit the milestone.
Mushfiqur Rahim is the next person in position to join the 7000 club; he has 99 runs to go.
