The government will provide taka 1.5 lakh to each family of the Jhalokathi launch fire deceased. The government will also provide the fees of treatment of the injured passengers.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury came up with the announcement while visiting the injured passengers who are undergoing treatment at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital around 2 pm Friday (December 24).
“We will provide taka 1,50,000 to each family of the deceased. The government will also manage all sort of treatment for the injured,” the state minister said.
Referring to the burn unit team that is now on the way of Barishal the minister said, critically injured patients would be sent to Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
Mentioning the probe body Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said, “The inquiry committee will submit its report within three working days.”
Earlier, the local administration of Barguna also announced that it will provide Tk 25,000 in aid to the families of the victims to meet the funeral expenses.
The Barguna-bound MV Abhijan-10 left Dhaka Sadarghat on Thursday evening. The engine room of the launch caught fire around 3 am while the launch was about to anchor Jhalokathi terminal. The blaze soon gripped the entire launch.
Rescuers have recovered 40 bodies so far following the incident. Survivors said, there were 300-350 passengers on board the launch.
