N'ganj Factory Fire: Financial aid declared to victims’ families, probe body formed

State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian has declared compensation to families of the deceased and victims of Narayanganj factory fire.

Families of the slain victims will get taka 2 lakh while the injured will get taka 50 thousand.

The state minister also assured of taking stern moves against Hashem Food and Beverage Limited if any fault is proved against the company.

Monnujan came up with the disclosure through a press release issued on Friday (July 09).

The state minister also said medical aid would be provided to the injured workers from the workers' welfare fund.

A massive fire swept through a seven-storey building housing a juice factory of Hashem Food Ltd at Bhulta Karnagop in Rupganj.

So far, the death toll from the fire reached 52 that broke out at 5pm on Thursday.

But the death toll might go up as the search operation still continues.

As many as 18 fire-fighting units from Narayanganj, Dhaka and Demra were still working to douse the flames.

A five-member probe committee has been formed by the district administration to look into the incident.

Meanwhile, the agitated workers of the factory carried out attack on police and newspersons.

Rupganj area in Narayanganj turned into a battle ground from 11am to 11:30am on Friday. Additional Members of the law enforcing agencies have been deployed to avert any untoward situation.
