A popular movie from the 1990s, Komolar Banobas, has made a surprising comeback on social media this week, almost 30 years after its release.

The movie, which was a big hit in both Dhaka and Kolkata, is suddenly being talked about everywhere.

People are sharing the movie’s poster and mentioning the name Komolar Banobas in their Facebook posts, with some even adding sad emojis.

Actress Bijri Borkatullah, along with other social media users, posted about the movie, and Bijri‍‍`s post alone received over 2,800 reactions and hundreds of comments.

By Wednesday afternoon, the name Komolar Banobas had been shared more than 10,000 times on Facebook, and it was even trending as "Popular Now."

The movie Komolar Banobas became famous not just for its film versions but also for the stage plays based on it, especially in rural areas where the character Komola became very popular.

The film was directed by Firoz Al Mamun in Dhaka, starring actors like Anwar Sharif, Rebeka, and Nasir Khan.

In Kolkata, the same-named movie was directed by Swapna Saha and featured actors like Tapas Pal and Shatabdi Roy.

So, why has Komolar Banobas suddenly become the talk of the town again? While the exact reason is unclear, many people online are suggesting that the movie‍‍`s title is now being used as a symbol to comment on Kamala Harris’s loss in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

Some Facebook users are drawing a connection between the disappointment felt by Kamala Harris’ supporters and the themes of the movie, which revolves around loss and separation.

It’s clear that the movie has struck a chord with people once again, but this time, the connection is being made to real-world political events.
