Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali has stated that the 2024-25 budget will make life easier for the common people. He remarked, "This budget is kept within Tk 8 lakh crore, as increasing the budget unnecessarily will not be beneficial."
The Finance Minister shared this information with journalists at his residence on Thursday, June 6.
Today, Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali will present the new budget in the National Parliament. This marks the 53rd budget of independent Bangladesh and the first budget of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina`s fourth consecutive term. The 2024-25 national budget brings significant changes in the revenue sector, with a proposed size of Tk 7.97 lakh crore.
For the 2024-25 fiscal year, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has set a target of Tk 4.80 lakh crore. The budget deficit is expected to be Tk 2.56 lakh crore. Compared to the current 2023-24 fiscal year, the budget size has been increased by 4.62%.
The budget includes a target of Tk 1.27 lakh crore in foreign loans and Tk 1.37 lakh crore in loans from banks. The cost of interest payments on loans is projected at Tk 1.13 lakh crore. Additionally, the target for selling savings certificates is set at Tk 15,400 crore.
