Three arrested over crime against humanity in 1971

Police have arrested two accused in a case filed over crime against humanity. Two of them were nabbed from Atharobari area of Ishwargaj and one from AB Guha Road of Mymensingh on Thursday.

The detainees are Tara Mia (70) son of Shamsher Ali from Itaulia village, Md. Rustom Ali son of Mefor Ali of Kalian villae and Sayed Mostafizur Rahman (72) from the city. The trio were shown arrested under section 54 and sent to the prison.

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) -1 earlier on the day issued warrant to arrest 12 Mymensingh men accused of committing crimes against humanity in 1971.

The two-member ICT-1 panel headed by Justice Md Shahinur Islam passed the order, allowing a plea of the prosecution.

Prosecutors Mokhlesur Rahman Badal and Tapas Kanti Baul moved the plea before the tribunal this morning. The prosecution, however, refrained from revealing the identities of the accused.

"The probe in the case is in the final stage and the accused needed to be kept behind the bars for the sake of proper investigation. So we had pleaded to issue arrest warrant against these accused and the tribunal allowed our plea," prosecutor Barrister Tapas Kanti Baul said.
