Three Bangladeshi nationals are fighting for their lives following a massive fire at a hotel building in New Delhi that left at least 21 people dead and dozens injured.
The Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi said on Thursday that eight Bangladeshis were among those hurt in the blaze. All of them have been admitted to hospitals in the Indian capital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
According to the mission, the condition of three injured Bangladeshis remains critical. Officials said they are closely monitoring the situation and staying in regular contact with both hospital authorities and Indian government agencies.
The deadly fire broke out on Wednesday in the Malviya Nagar area of south New Delhi. The building housed a restaurant on the ground floor and a hotel on the upper floors.
Authorities said the incident claimed 21 lives and injured 28 others, making it one of the most serious fire tragedies reported in the area in recent years.
The victims included citizens of several countries. Alongside Indian nationals, people from Mozambique, Liberia, Nigeria and Uzbekistan were also among those killed, reflecting the international impact of the disaster.
The Bangladesh High Commission said medical teams have advised relatives and visitors to avoid direct contact with burn victims to help prevent infections and support their recovery.
The mission reaffirmed its commitment to assisting the injured Bangladeshis and said it would continue coordinating with hospitals and local authorities to ensure they receive the necessary treatment and support.
Meanwhile, Indian authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Rescue and recovery operations are also continuing as officials assess the full extent of the damage.
Malviya Nagar is a densely populated neighbourhood known for its residential buildings, shops, restaurants and budget hotels, and is home to many students and young professionals.
