Former Member of Parliament, freedom fighter and Advisory Council member of the Awami League, A.K.M. Rahmatullah, has passed away. After undergoing treatment for a prolonged illness at Square Hospital in the capital, he breathed his last at 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3. He was 76 years old.
Family members told the media that following his death, his body was taken to his residence in the Beraid area of Badda, Dhaka. His funeral prayer (janaza) will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Beraid Field. He will be laid to rest afterward in the family graveyard there.
Throughout his long political career, Rahmatullah held several important positions within the Awami League. Until his death, he served as a member of the party’s Advisory Council. He also previously served as president of the Dhaka North Awami League.
He was elected to Parliament five times and represented his constituents in the National Parliament. His passing has cast a shadow of grief over the country’s political arena.
