Five more children have died from measles and related symptoms in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, pushing the total death toll to 565 since mid-March, according to the latest government data.

The Directorate General of Health Services said all five newly reported deaths were confirmed as measles-related.

No new suspected deaths were recorded during the reporting period ending at 8:00am on Thursday.

Health officials said the highest number of suspected deaths was reported from the Dhaka Division.

With the latest figures, the number of confirmed measles deaths across the country has reached 88, while 477 deaths remain classified as suspected cases.

The DGHS also reported a continued rise in infections nationwide. A total of 826 new suspected measles cases were identified in the last 24 hours, increasing the overall number of suspected infections to 67,905.

During the same period, authorities confirmed 51 additional measles infections, bringing the total confirmed cases to 8,885 since March 15.

According to official data, 54,188 suspected measles patients have so far been admitted to hospitals across the country. Among them, 50,926 patients have recovered.

Bangladesh has been facing a significant measles outbreak in recent months, prompting health authorities to strengthen surveillance, treatment and vaccination efforts in affected areas.

Public health experts have repeatedly stressed the importance of routine immunisation and early medical treatment to reduce complications from the highly contagious disease, especially among children.

Health officials continue to urge parents to seek immediate treatment if children develop symptoms such as fever, rash, cough or breathing difficulties.
