The procession began around 7 PM from the TSC area and moved across the DU campus, concluding at the Raju Memorial Sculpture. The demonstrators demanded the highest punishment for those involved in the incident.
Participants, led by members of the Democratic Students` Alliance and various women`s groups, chanted powerful slogans including: “Bangladesh must rise against murder and rape,” “Break the hands of the oppressors,” “Where there is violence, there will be resistance,” “Why the silence on Cumilla rape? We demand answers,” “No place for rapists in the Bangladesh of `71,” and “No space for oppressors in the Bangladesh of 2024.”
According to reports, on the night of June 26, a woman was allegedly raped after an intruder broke into her home in Ramchandrapur Panchkitta village of Muradnagar.
Locals caught and beat the accused, 36-year-old Fazor Ali Fazor, but he later managed to escape.
A video of the survivor was later recorded and circulated on social media, drawing widespread outrage.
Following the incident, five individuals have so far been arrested in connection with the case. Protesters at DU called for swift legal action and justice for the survivor, warning that a culture of impunity would only lead to further atrocities.
