Travel ban imposed on countries where Omicron detected

The health ministry has issued travel ban from countries where the new Covid-19 'variant of concern' Omicron, has been detected. 

On Saturday (November 27), Health Minister Zahid Maleque directed the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to take necessary steps for the detection and preevention of the new Covid-19 mutation.

"We have instructed the health department to take steps to ban travel to countries in Africa and Europe where the new variant of the virus have been detected," he said.

The new Covid-19 type 'Omicron' was first identified in South Africa on Thursday (November 26). In addition to Africa, the species has already been detected in Botswana, Israel, Hong Kong and Belgium.

Later, in an emergency meeting on Friday (November 26), the World Health Organization (WHO) called the new strain "concerning."
