Two Indian nationals were arrested by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at the Fulbari border in Kurigram on Sunday afternoon.
The arrest took place in the village of Balatari, near the Naodanga Union, which is close to the border.
Along with the two Indian citizens, a Bangladeshi man, Yusuf Ali (24), was also detained for allegedly helping them cross the border illegally.
The authorities took the three individuals into custody and later handed them over to the Fulbari Police Station on Sunday night.
The two arrested Indians were identified as Reshma Mondal, aged 28, from Dhamaigora village in Nadanghat Police Station, East Burdwan District, and Sourav Kumar Sapui, 18, from Gorkhali village in Ushuti Police Station, South 24 Parganas District.
Yusuf Ali, the trafficker, is from Kashirdara village in Nageshwari Upazila, Kurigram.
According to BGB and police reports, the two Indian nationals were in a romantic relationship and had decided to start a new life together in Bangladesh.
They crossed the border with the help of Yusuf Ali, who facilitated their illegal entry.
Fulbari Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Mamunur Rashid, confirmed that the BGB has filed a case against the three individuals involved.
