In a visit to Bangladesh, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed his deep appreciation for the country’s ongoing commitment to democratic reforms and human rights, especially during these challenging times.
Speaking on Saturday morning, after visiting the newly built United Nations headquarters in Dhaka, Guterres shared his optimism about the progress Bangladesh is making.
He emphasized his expectations for these reforms to continue across all sectors.
"I am inspired to be in Bangladesh during such a tough time," he said, highlighting the resilience and commitment the country has shown.
Guterres also took the opportunity to praise Bangladesh`s generous hospitality towards the Rohingya refugees.
He remarked that the UN is fully committed to supporting Bangladesh in this critical phase.
He also urged the global community to recognize and support Bangladesh’s efforts in hosting a large number of refugees.
"The world should fully support Bangladesh`s generous efforts," Guterres added.
Additionally, the UN Secretary-General visited a photo exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of the relationship between Bangladesh and the United Nations.
As part of the commemoration, Guterres formally raised the United Nations flag, further underscoring the long-standing partnership between the two.
With ongoing global challenges, Guterres’ visit reaffirms the United Nations’ commitment to standing by Bangladesh during its crucial reforms and humanitarian efforts.
