Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), is set to land in Dhaka today on a visit that will last until March 1.

This visit is being closely watched as Grandi is expected to focus on one of the most pressing issues Bangladesh is dealing with: the ongoing Rohingya refugee crisis.

Grandi has been a frequent visitor to Bangladesh since the crisis erupted on August 25, 2017, when Myanmar‍‍`s Rakhine state saw a brutal crackdown on the Rohingya people, leading to a mass exodus into Bangladesh.

The country now hosts over a million Rohingya refugees, most of whom are settled in Cox’s Bazar.

As part of his itinerary, Grandi is scheduled to meet with key officials, including Chief Advisor Dr. Yunus, Special Representative to the Chief Advisor Khalilur Rahman, and the Foreign Affairs Advisor.

These meetings are expected to cover the current situation of the Rohingya refugees and explore potential solutions for their future.

One of the major highlights of Grandi‍‍`s trip will be his visits to the refugee camps in Cox‍‍`s Bazar and the island of Bhasan Char, where some Rohingya families have been relocated.

These visits hold significant importance, as the international community remains deeply concerned about the living conditions and future of the refugees.

Former diplomats have pointed out that this trip is crucial for the Rohingya crisis, with hopes that Grandi’s presence could help bring more global attention and support for Bangladesh’s efforts in managing the situation.
