Delivering verdict in a rape case filed against Apan Jewellers owner Dildar Ahmed’s son Shafat Ahmed has been deferred for the second time. The new date is yet to be fixed.
The deferral came following the postponement of all judicial procedures at lower courts in Dhaka due to the demise of Supreme Court senior lawyer Abdul Baset Majumder.
State lawyer of the relevant tribunal Afroza Farhana Ahmed Orange confirmed the matter to media.
Earlier, the court fixed October 12 to deliver the verdict after both the prosecution and defence placed arguments. However, it was delayed after the acting judge of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Tribunal-7 fell sick and today (October 27) was fixed for the judgment.
The court also canceled the bail of five accused in the case including Safat and directed to send them to prison.
Investigation Officer of the case Ismat Ara Emy pressed the charge-sheet against five accused on June 7, 2017. The tribunal accepted the chare-sheet on June 19.
Two private university students filed the case on May 6 accusing five people of raping after the victims were invited to a birthday programme on March 28.
