A court here today convicted and sentenced a youth to life imprisonment in a case lodged over abduction and rape of a student of BAF Shaheen School in 2012.
Judge Sabera Sultana Khanom pronounced the judgment in presence of convict Sathel Mahmud Sohel, sentencing him life imprisonment, fining him Taka 20 thousand or to suffer three months more behind bars in default under the charge of abduction. The court also awarded him life imprisonment under the charge of rape.
The two sentences of jail, however, will run concurrently.
According to the case documents, the convict used to tease the girl on her way to and from the school. On October 17, 2012, the youth abducted the girl as she was returning from the school and raped her by keeping her confined.
Victim`s father on October 18, 2012, filed the case with Cantonment Police Station and police on December 8, 2012, filed charge-sheet against Sohel. The court on January 20, 2015, framed charges against him and examined six accused on different hearing dates.
