Bangladesh has been unanimously elected to the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth for the 2026-28 term.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh was elected from the Asia-Europe region during a meeting of the Commonwealth Board of Governors held at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London on May 20.
Acting Bangladesh High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Nazrul Islam represented the country at the meeting.
The Executive Committee oversees financial, administrative and policy matters related to the Commonwealth Secretariat.
It also reviews membership applications and makes recommendations to the Commonwealth Board of Governors.
Officials said Bangladesh’s election reflects the country’s active role and continued contribution within the Commonwealth.
Bangladesh joined the Commonwealth shortly after gaining independence and has remained an active member of the organisation.
