A group of HSC students staged a protest at the Secretariat on Wednesday, demanding a re-evaluation of their exam results.
Witnesses reported that around 50-60 students, many of whom had failed or received unsatisfactory scores, gathered around 3pm, chanting slogans for their demands to be addressed.
The protesters threatened to hold a sit-in until their requests were met. However, tensions escalated, leading police to intervene with baton charges to disperse the crowd.
Authorities detained 53 students on-site, who were then transported to Shahbagh Police Station in two prison vans, according to an assistant superintendent of police.
This protest follows an earlier demonstration on October 20 by students under the banner of ‘HSC-Batch 2024’ at the Dhaka Education Board, where they criticized the recent HSC results as discriminatory.
They called for the results to be re-evaluated and published based on a comprehensive mapping of all subjects.
The HSC results were released on October 15.
