The Dhaka University Central Students` Union (DUCSU) election is set to take place in the second week of September this year, with the official election schedule to be announced on July 29, according to the university’s election commission.
The announcement came during a final stakeholder meeting held on the morning of Sunday, July 20, at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building. Chief Returning Officer Professor Dr. Golam Rabbani presented the detailed election plan to the attendees.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Election Commission, university administration, provost committee, dean committee, and various student organizations.
For the first time in DUCSU`s history, no polling stations will be set up inside residential halls. Instead, polling centers for each hall will be relocated to neutral venues on campus. The Election Commission has confirmed six such venues and their corresponding halls:
Curzon Hall (Examination Building): For residents of Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah Hall, Amar Ekushey Hall, and Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall.
Physical Education Center: For Jagannath Hall, Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall, and Salimullah Muslim Hall.
Teacher-Student Centre (TSC): For Rokeya Hall, Shamsunnahar Hall, and Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall.
Dhaka University Club Centre: For Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall and Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall.
Senate Building (Alumni Floor, Seminar Room & Dining Room): For SIR A.F. Rahman Hall, Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall, and Bijoy Ekattor Hall.
Udayan School & College Centre: For Surya Sen Hall, Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, and Kabi Jasimuddin Hall.
Regarding eligibility, the commission clarified that students from the 2018–19 academic session whose Master’s results have already been published will not be eligible to vote or run as candidates in this year’s DUCSU or hall union elections.
It was also noted that the authority to amend the DUCSU constitution lies solely with the Dhaka University Syndicate.
