Students of the Medical Assistants Training School, or MATS, have staged a demonstration blocking a road in the capital`s Shahbagh with a list of four demands, including immediate recruitment to vacant positions in the 10th grade and the creation of new positions in the government and private sectors, reports Bdnews24.com.
The students took up positions at the key intersection in Dhaka around 1pm on Wednesday, said Mohammad Khalid Mansur, chief of Shahbagh Police Station.
The police official also said that this led to traffic congestion on the road.
OC Mansur told bdnews24.com, "MATS students have blocked a road in Shahbagh with their demands. The road is still closed, and traffic is at a standstill there."
The demands include immediate recruitment to vacant positions in the 10th grade, employment, and the creation of new positions in the government and private sectors.
They are also seeking a curriculum revision and internship for this year, along with allowances, while maintaining a four-year academic course.
In addition, the protesting students have demanded the cancellation of the proposed Allied Health Professionals Board, the formation of a board called the `Medical Education Board of Bangladesh`, and the opportunity to receive higher education in clinical subjects that meet international standards and are recognised by the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council.
