The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) asked the author panel of seventh grade Science subject textbook as multiple passages from the book were directly copied from National Geographic website and the Bangla translation was made using Google Translate.
A social media post went viral in this regard alleging the textbook authors directly copied parts of from the National Geographic Education Resource Library website (education.nationalgeographic.org).
Blunders were made in page number three, five and the textbook also contained multiple pictures that were taken from various websites without any attribution.
NCTB member (curriculum) Prof Md Moshiuzzaman told the media that the textbook board noticed the issues and took steps asking the writer panel and review committee to provide a proper explanation by Tuesday.
According to NCTB, five teachers - Prof Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, Prof Haseena Khan, Prof Dr Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Khan, Prof Dr Mustak Ibn Ayub, and Assistant Professor Rony Basak, worked on the panel to write the seventh grade (Science- Inquiry Lessons) book.
Meanwhile, acknowledging the blunder, Prof Zafar Iqbal and Prof Haseena Khan on Monday released a statement.

Even if Prof Zafar and Prof Haseena did not compose the parts, the statement said that because they were panel members, the blame still falls on their shoulders.
The plagiarized parts will be modified in next edition, he added.
