The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has issued five urgent demands, including the repeal of the 1972 Constitution, the resignation of President Mohammed Sahabuddin, and the banning of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), all to be addressed within the week.
Hasnat Abdullah, the movement`s coordinator, announced the demands in a Facebook post on Tuesday afternoon, titled “Five Demands of Students and People.”
The Five Demands:
1. Repeal of the 1972 Constitution – The group insists that the current constitution must be revoked and replaced with a new one, reflecting the demands of the people.
2. Ban BCL – Chhatra League, which the group claims is a terrorist organization, must be officially banned within the week.

3. President`s Resignation – The immediate resignation of President Sahabuddin is non-negotiable, with the group setting a deadline for this week.
4. Proclamation of a Republic – In reference to the July Revolution, the group demands that a ‘Proclamation of Republic’ be declared this week, ensuring Bangladesh’s political system is restructured based on a consensus of all political parties.
5. Annulment of National Elections – The national elections of 2014, 2018, and 2024 should be declared invalid, suggesting widespread dissatisfaction with the electoral process in recent years.
Hasnat Abdullah emphasized the urgency of these demands, writing in his post, “The advisory council of the interim government has already scheduled a discussion with us for tomorrow. We expect decisions regarding the implementation of the students` and people’s five demands to be made after the discussions.”
