Following a student protest, the written examination centre for the 46th BCS in Mymensingh has been moved from Anand Mohan College to Premier Ideal High School.
The Public Service Commission (PSC) announced that all remaining exams until August 21 will be conducted at the new venue.
While the commission confirmed the centre change in a press release on Wednesday, no specific reason was provided.
A PSC official told media that “the commission has not provided a clear explanation for the venue change.” The official notice, signed by PSC exam controller Masuma Afrin, cited “unavoidable reasons” for the relocation.
The decision follows a protest by students at Anand Mohan College on Tuesday, demanding the removal of newly appointed acting principal Professor Md. Sakir Hossain, whom they labelled as politically affiliated with the ruling party.
During the demonstration, students reportedly locked the principal’s office while he was inside, and police later intervened to restore order.
The 46th BCS written examinations began on July 24. A total of 21,397 candidates, who passed the preliminary examination, are scheduled to take part in the written tests.
The 46th BCS preliminary examination was held on April 26 last year, with 254,561 candidates sitting for the test.
The results were initially published on May 9, 2023, with 10,638 candidates qualifying. Later, in a move aimed at ensuring fairness, an equal number of additional candidates were also declared successful, bringing the total number of qualifiers to 21,397.
The written examinations were originally scheduled from August 28 to September 9 last year but were postponed due to unrest following a government change.
According to the PSC schedule, compulsory subject exams are being held across 18 centres, while post-specific exams are taking place in 10 centres.
