Five children drown in river in Chapainawabganj

Five children drowned while bathing in the Mora Pagla River in Debinagar Union of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila.

The incident occurred at around 1:30pm on Friday in Char Chakla village, Ward 3 of the union. The identities of the children were not immediately known.

Local Union Parishad member Mojibur Rahman said several children had gone into the Mora Pagla River to bathe in the Char Chakla area. At one point, five of them drowned one after another. Local residents later attempted to rescue them.

Ekaramul Haque, officer-in-charge of Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station, confirmed the incident. He said police were sent to the scene after receiving the report. The identities of the deceased children and further details of the incident will be disclosed later.
