The Red Sea port city of Eilat in Israel faced an aerial attack on Monday and military officials of Israel claimed there were no casualties from the incident.
The military statement revealed that a flying object originating from east of Israel struck a building in Eilat. Although details about the object`s nature and origin were not provided, sirens sounded in the city, with no interception by air defenses.
An Iranian-backed armed group in Iraq, known as the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement, the militia referred to targeting a "vital objective" in Israel using "appropriate weapons," without specifying further details.
Eilat has previously been subjected to missile and drone attacks, particularly from the Iranian-aligned Houthi movement in Yemen, amid Israel`s ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza. In November, Israel attributed a drone strike on the port city to a group based in Syria.
