Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and the world’s richest person, is set to join President Donald Trump’s cabinet.
Musk will work alongside tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy in leading a new office called the “Office of Government Efficiency.” This news was reported by Reuters.
Since Trump won the U.S. presidential election on November 5, there has been growing talk that Musk might take on a government job.
Now, it has been confirmed. On Tuesday, Trump announced that Musk and Ramaswamy would be in charge of the new office, which will focus on improving how the government runs.
Trump said that the two men would help break down the bureaucracy, cut unnecessary regulations, reduce wasteful spending, and restructure government agencies.
The new office will give advice to government departments from outside the usual government system.
Their work is expected to be finished by July 4, 2026, which will mark 250 years since the Declaration of Independence. Trump described this as a “gift” for the country.
Elon Musk is currently the richest person in the world, according to Forbes. During the election, Musk supported Trump and donated a large sum of money to his campaign.
Trump had promised at rallies that, if he won, Musk would play a big role in his administration to help improve government efficiency.
Vivek Ramaswamy, a businessman who started a pharmaceutical company, had also run for the Republican presidential nomination but later dropped out and endorsed Trump.
