Ramesh Chandra Sen, the former water resources minister and ex-lawmaker from Thakurgaon-1 constituency, was taken into custody from his ancestral home in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila last night.
According to Officer-in-Charge Gulfamul Islam Mandal of Ruhea Police Station, a team from Dhaka Police Headquarters apprehended him at his residence. The team informed the OC that Ramesh Chandra Sen was being detained for his own safety.
His wife, Anjali Rani Sen, told reporters that a group of plainclothes officers arrived at their home around 10:15 pm, stating they would take him for just half an hour. She said they identified themselves as members of the Dhaka Police Headquarters and ignored her repeated pleas not to take him due to his illness.
Family members have indicated that, to their knowledge, no formal charges have been filed against him at any police station.
