One of the largest reclining Buddha statues in Asia was unveiled on Wednesday in Juraichhari upazila of Rangamati district.
The grand opening ceremony was attended by followers of Buddhism in Bangladesh and across South Asia.
The reclining statue of the Buddha, which is 126 feet long is adorned in traditional golden colour lies at the scenic hills of Rangamati. The stairway to the statue has been coloured in red-green, paying tribute to the national flag colours.
The initiative has been funded by Dhammakaya Foundation, a non-profit religious organization based in Thailand.
The cost of the statue is approximately four crore BDT.
Meanwhile, neighbouring India is also constructing their largest reclining statue of the Buddha in Bodh Gaya. Built by Buddha International Welfare Mission, the statue will be 100 feet long and 30 feet wide.
