4 die, 3 go missing in Karnaphuli fishing trawler capsize

Bodies of four people, who went missing after a fishing trawler capsized in Karnaphuli river on Wednesday, have been recovered while three others are still missing. 

Ekram Ullah, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chattogram's Sadarghat River Police Station, confirmed the recovery.

River police and Coast Guard members recovered the bodies from different places in the river in separate rescue operations between 3:00am and 10:00am on Thursday. 

The deceased are--captain of the trawler, Faruk Bin Abdullah, 51, chief officer Md Saiful Islam, 53, second officer Md Jahirul Islam, 45, and a staff of the dockyard, Rahmat, 50.

The bodies were sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) and those would be handed over to the families through legal procedures, said the OC.

The fishing trawler -- FV Magferat carrying 21 persons including 15 crewmen capsized near Sea Resources Dockyard at Ichhanagar on the southern bank of the river early Wednesday.

The incident occurred when the trawler FV Magferat was trying to dock at a dockyard named Sea Resource at the Ichanagar area on the southern bank of the river around 1:30am.
