Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury, the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Kishoreganj who was withdrawn following former President Md. Abdul Hamid’s controversial foreign trip, has been reinstated to his former post.
The directive was issued on Sunday through a notification from the Personal Management-1 branch of the Police Headquarters, signed by Additional Deputy Inspector General Khandaker Shamima Yasmin.
Earlier, on May 7, former President Abdul Hamid traveled to Thailand for medical treatment. His departure sparked significant debate in both administrative and political circles, particularly regarding whether official permission had been granted for the trip.
In the immediate aftermath, SP Hasan Chowdhury was removed from his post. Additionally, an assistant superintendent of police posted at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s immigration desk was also withdrawn, while two other officers faced temporary suspension.
According to sources within the police administration, a review by Police Headquarters found no administrative negligence on SP Hasan Chowdhury’s part, leading to his reinstatement. He had originally assumed the role of Kishoreganj SP on August 31, 2024.
Hasan Chowdhury said on Monday, “I have resumed duties today as SP of Kishoreganj. I seek everyone’s cooperation in maintaining law and order.”
Former President Abdul Hamid returned to Bangladesh on July 19 after completing his treatment in Thailand.
