40K workers of 23 tea gardens in Habiganj refrain from joining works

After a 10-day strike of tea workers demanding Tk 300 wages, the workers of Moulvibazar joined their job, but about 40 thousand workers of 23 tea gardens in the neighboring district Habiganj are yet to resume.

They say that there was no agreement between them and the government or the owners of the garden regarding the wages. Because of this, they did not attend work today. The movement will continue.

The tea workers in Moulvibazar district have returned to work from Monday with the previous wage of Tk 120.

They decided to join work after the discussion between administration and the leaders of the Bangladesh Tea Workers Union at the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Moulvibazar on late Sunday night.

"We have no agreement with the decision made in Moulvibazar." Ordinary laborers will not join the work for 120 rupees wages. So we didn't join work today,” Rabindra Ger, the president of Lashkarpar Valley, which consists of 23 tea gardens in Habiganj, told the media.

The workers of the tea gardens of Habiganj gathered in the Chanpur tea garden field of Chunarughat upazila instead of attending work around 11 o'clock today.

They held a rally there and the leaders of the platform gave a speech. They said that there was no agreement with the workers. Why do they go to work? They will not go to work for a wage of 120 taka.
