By 6 p.m. on Sunday (May 14), the very severe cyclonic storm Mocha, which is currently over east central areo of Bay of Bengal and its surrounding, is projected to become more worse, proceed in a north-northwesterly direction, and pass Cox's Bazar-Myanmar's north coast.
By that timeframe, Cox's Bazar and surrounding coastal areas would feel the extremely severe cyclonic storm's periphery effects, according to a Met Office special bulletin.
It was centered around 12 a.m. on Saturday approximately 865 kilometres to the southwest of Chattogram port, 795 km to the southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 830 km to the southwest of Mongla port, and 795 km to the southwest of Payra port.
Within 74 km of the center of the extremely severe storm, the maximum sustained wind speed is around 150 kph, with gusts or squalls reaching 170 kph.
The wind-driven flood, which is 8–12 feet above average tide, is likely to inundate the coastal districts of Cox's Bazar, Chattogram, Feni, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Chandpur, and Bhola, as well as their islands and chars.
Maritime ports of Cox’s Bazar and Chattogram have been advised to keep the great danger signal 8 hoisted while maritime ports of Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep local warning signal 4 hoisted.
