Dollars are in high demand before and after Eid. Because during this time many people go to travel outside the country. Every year, the price of dollar in the retail market increases during Eid, but this time it has decreased slightly.
This information was received from the money changers of Motijheel and Gulshan in the capital and the dollar sellers of Kholabazar on Thursday.
According to the data, a week ago these money changers sold 113 taka per dollar. On Thursday, it fell to 112 taka per dollar. On this day, dollars were bought at 111.50 taka in the retail market.
After the Russia-Ukraine war broke out earlier in 2022, the country's open market saw cash dollar prices rise above 120 taka. Later, the Bangladesh Bank conducted raids on several currency markets in the capital and set the price of the dollar. Now the money exchangers can sell dollars at a price one and a half taka higher than the cash dollars sold by the banks. However, in most cases, the money changers do not comply with these rules of the financial sector regulatory body.
Retail dollar sellers said that the supply of dollars in the country's market is good before Eid this year. But at this time, the demand of buyers is very low. Very few people are buying dollars now. As a result, the value of the dollar slightly decreased.
After examining ways to lower the cost of dollars, Bangladesh Bank asked for approval for the use of dollars in passports. They asked to verify the amount of dollar spent.
According to the rules, a Bangladeshi citizen can spend a maximum of $12,000 a year outside the country.
Meanwhile, banks pay Tk 105 per dollar of export earnings. In addition, the dollar price of expatriate income is 107 taka. This price of dollar has been determined by Bangladesh Foreign Exchange Dealers' Association (BAFEDA) and Association of Bankers Bangladesh (ABB).
