According to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal on Saturday, no one has yet voiced a valid criticism of the usage of electronic voting machines (EVMs). So that the commission can organize elections in 50 to 80 seats during the general election with the EVMs it currently has.
"The Election Commission is consistently in favor of utilizing EVMs to conduct elections. In addition, we are looking for cutting-edge contemporary technology for future elections," he stated as chief guest at the opening ceremony of a day-long workshop in Cox's Bazar.
Kazi Habibul Awal said the main objective of the commission is to give voters the chance to exercise their franchise.
The Election Commission doesn't care who the voters are or which party they support, he said.
"If voters cannot vote, if they are prohibited from voting, if their rights are violated at polling places, we will have to take responsibility for our failure along with all concerned authorities," he continued.
The commission has taken a position in favor of EVMs after completing various tests, the chief election commissioner added.
