According to unofficial reports, AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, the Awami League-backed mayoral candidate in the Rajshahi City Corporation elections, is ahead in 86 of the total 155 polling stations.
The counting began at the Rajshahi Shilpakala Academy at 4:00pm after the voting ended.
Liton received 85,778 votes in 86 voting stations until 6:25 p.m., while Jatiya Party candidate Saiful Islam Swapan received 5,442 votes, according to unofficial sources.
Meanwhile, in the same number of voting centers, mayoral candidate Latif Anwar of the Jaker Party received 6,842 votes, while Murshid Alam of Islami Andolan Bangladesh received 7,716 votes.
The Rajshahi City Corporation has 351,982 registered voters.
There are four candidates running for mayor, 111 for councilor positions in 30 general words, and 46 for the 10 reserved councilor seats.
The election was held through Electronic Voting Machines.
