Low pressure forms over Bay of Bengal, likely to intensify

A low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining west-central Bay, near the coasts of northern Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha, and may intensify further, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

In its weather bulletin issued on Wednesday morning, the BMD said the monsoon trough extends from Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and sub-Himalayan West Bengal across northern Bangladesh to Assam, with an extension reaching the west-central Bay and adjoining north Bay.

The monsoon is active over the northern parts of Bangladesh and moderately active elsewhere, with a moderate presence over the north Bay.

Wednesday: Most areas in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, and many areas in Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal divisions, may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds. Some places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet may see moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall. Day temperatures may drop by 1–2°C and night temperatures may fall slightly.

Thursday: Many areas in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet, and a few areas in Rajshahi and Dhaka, may get light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds. Isolated moderately heavy to heavy falls are likely. Temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.

Friday: Many areas in Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet, and some areas in Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, and Mymensingh, may receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely. Day and night temperatures may rise slightly.

Saturday: Many areas in Chattogram and Sylhet, and some in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal, may get light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds, with heavy rain likely in some parts of Chattogram and Sylhet. Temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.

Sunday: Most areas in Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet, and many areas in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram, may see light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds. Some places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet may experience moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall. Temperatures will remain nearly unchanged.

The five-day outlook suggests that the rainfall trend will likely continue.
