New Delhi has sent a message to Washington that it will not be pleasant for both India and the United States if the government led by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is weakened. The Indian administration also feels that the US should not have announced a separate visa policy only for Bangladesh.
This information has emerged in the report of the online version of India`s widely circulated Anandabazar newspaper on Friday.
In the report titled- "If Sheikh Hasina is weakened, everyone will suffer. This is a message to America". New Delhi believes that if Bangladesh`s is weakened, it will not be good for India and America. According to diplomatic sources, New Delhi communicated this to the US administration at multiple levels of meetings.
The report also says, "New Delhi`s statement is, India wants a fair and free election in Bangladesh just like the US wants. But the way various steps are being taken by the US to destabilize the current Bangladesh government, it is not positive for the overall security of India as a neighboring country as well as South Asia."
It is also said, "Three weeks later, American President Joe Biden and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will sit on the same stage in New Delhi. Before that, this message from India is considered to be significant enough. South Block thinks that if Jamaat-e-Islami is given `political concession` Dhaka will be taken over by fundamentalism in the near future. The liberal environment that exists will no longer exist."
According to the Indian diplomatic camp, the security system of the entire region has turned upside down after the decision to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan. India`s Northeast Frontier region is in a dangerous situation. The Taliban is now at the peak of power in Afghanistan. It is believed that the US made a closed-door deal with Afghanistan without considering its women, children and minorities, and is now suffering the consequences. The Ministry of External Affairs feels that America`s policy towards Kabul as well as India`s other neighbors is increasing New Delhi`s discomfort with questions of national interest. Bangladesh has the longest land border with India. As a result, any adverse situation in that country affects India as well.
The report says, "According to the source, New Delhi has told the US administration that if the Jamaat is allowed to increase on the one hand, just as India`s cross-border terrorism may increase, China`s influence in Bangladesh will increase a lot, which is not desired by Washington either. It is believed that America always tries to show Jamaat as a political Islamic organization. But in reality, undoubtedly Jamaat is a radical fundamentalist organization."
Journalist Agni Roy`s report also said, "The US administration has announced a separate visa policy only for Bangladesh. According to the sources, as a result of this new visa policy, those who try to disrupt the upcoming elections in Bangladesh will not be allowed to enter America. The diplomatic camp feels that the American administration directly interfered with the internal politics of Bangladesh by applying the laws of its own country and adopted a separate visa policy for that country."
It is also said that recently a delegation of five members of Awami League of Bangladesh came to New Delhi and held a meeting with the top leadership of BJP and the ministers of the central government. There they also gave a message that the BNP-Jamaat alliance is dangerous in terms of maintaining the regional status. Leader of the delegation Bangladesh Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzak held a positive meeting with Foreign Minister S Jaishankar.
Right after that meeting, Abdur Razzaq said, "We have told India that regional stability is important for both countries. The Bangladesh government is committed to not allow Bangladesh to be used for anti-India activities.”
