Auto-rickshaw rider Mohammad Anik was waiting in front of a shop on the opposite side of Jhilpar slam, adjacent to Commerce College in Mirpur during it was cats and dogs.
Med department recorded 113 milimetres of rain in Dhaka on Thursday.
Due to heavy rains, the roads there were submerged. But the pedestrians were going towards the destination through the water.
Suddenly four people fell into the clogged water on the road. Anik went ahead to rescue them. He may not have realized that those who fell down, were electrocuted.
While picking up those fallen people, he himself was electrocuted and died alogside.
Anik`s uncle Alam Mia toldthe media, “I live in Mirpur-10, and a rickshaw puller. I rushed there and heard he was taken to the hospital.”
He also said, Anik is a hailer of Netrakon, got married a year ago and later separated.
Hasan Mia, a resident of Jhilpar slum said that Anik separated with his wife, a day earlier on Wednesday afternoon and next day he died.
Hasan said that he was inside his house due to heavy rain. He came out after hearing people`s voices.
He said, “I see Anik is also lying there. Many tried to move them with bamboo. After a while, when the water receded, he was rescued and taken to the hospital.”
Anik lived in the garage of the Jhilpar slum.
When the heavy rainfall hit last night, like many roads in capital Dhaka, the road in front of the Jhilpar slum adjacent to the Commerce College in Mirpur got waterlogged.
A total of four people, including three from the same family, died due to electrocution on that flooded road.
The deceased were identified as Mizan (30), his wife Mukta Begum (25), daughter Lima (7) and Anik. Another 7-month-old child of Mizan was also electrocuted but recued.
