Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested eight more members linked to the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Awami League (AL), and their affiliated organizations for participating in sudden (jhatika) processions in different parts of the capital.
According to a DMP press release, the individuals were detained for allegedly attempting to spread panic and plotting to destabilize the country by organizing and carrying out sudden demonstrations in different ways.
The arrestees were - Joint General Secretary of Ward No. 57 Jubo League of Kamrangirchar Shamim Ahmed Shahid (41), Ward No. 33 Jubo League President of Bangshal Md. Zia Mia (45), Ward No. 28 Sher-e-Bangla Nagar League Vice-President Md. Abdur Rob Patwari (50), Ward No. 28 Jubo League Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Vice President Md. Kabir Hossain alias Pani Kabir (35), Ward 48 BCL former president and Awami League Ward 48 General Secretary candidate MK Azim, North City Turag Krishak League leader Md. Delwar Hossain (42), Forest and Environment Affairs Secretary of Bangabandhu National Youth Council Central Committee Raihan Ahmed (43) and Bangladesh Krishak League Central Committee assistant Cultural Affairs Secretary and former Swechasebak League Rampura President Mohammad Kamrul Islam Khan Litu (45).
Legal action is on against the arrestees.
