In a major counter-terrorism operation, Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai have eliminated a senior Boko Haram/ISWAP commander, Amir Abu Fatima, along with at least 60 insurgents in separate missions across Borno State.

The Nigerian Army announced on Friday through its official Facebook page that these operations are part of intensified efforts to dismantle terrorist strongholds in the North-East.

Amir Abu Fatima, who had a 100 million bounty on his head, was killed in a precision Special Forces raid in Kukawa, northern Borno. The operation was based on actionable intelligence about his location and movements.

"During a fierce firefight, Abu Fatima sustained fatal injuries. His deputy, several bomb specialists, and other fighters were also eliminated," the Army reported. Troops recovered AK-47 rifles, ammunition, explosives, and other military-grade equipment during the mission.

Remarkably, the operation was carried out without any casualties among Nigerian forces.

In a separate land and air offensive early Friday in Bita, southern Borno, the military neutralised at least 60 terrorists after targeting their hideouts in a coordinated assault.

“These missions dealt a significant blow to the leadership and operational strength of Boko Haram and ISWAP in the region,” the Army stated.
