JCD demands resignation of VC, proctor over campus security failure

The Dhaka University unit of Chhatra Dal has demanded the resignation of the university’s vice-chancellor and proctor, accusing them of failing to ensure campus security following the recent murder of student leader Shahriar Alam Samyo.

At a press briefing held on campus, Chhatra Dal leaders criticized the university administration and police for their ‘negligent and suspicious’ response to the incident.

They pointed out that the crime scene was left unsecured for hours and that no CCTV footage was retrieved from the area.

They also questioned the version of events shared by the police, calling it vague and misleading. Chhatra Dal alleged that despite Samyo identifying himself as a DU student, he was fatally attacked in a ‘professional and premeditated’ manner.

Accusing the administration of protecting pro-government student activists allegedly involved in violence, the group said that instead of ensuring a safe campus, the university had empowered individuals aligned with authoritarian forces.

Chhatra Dal concluded by urging the vice-chancellor and proctor to resign, arguing that only a change in leadership could restore safety and neutrality to the campus environment.
