Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, Adviser to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, confirmed that the gas shortage reported by factory owners is genuine.
He explained that LNG shipments have already arrived from abroad, but rough sea conditions have delayed the docking of the tanker. He expressed hope that gas supply will return to normal by this evening.
During a visit to Towel Tex Limited factory in Chandara, Kaliakoir, Gazipur, Fauzul Kabir Khan inspected the gas situation and noted widespread illegal gas connections.
He stated that officials responsible for allowing such unauthorized connections at Titas Gas will face disciplinary action.
Large-scale operations to disconnect illegal gas lines and hold those involved accountable are underway.
He further explained that while the LNG ship had reached the country, it could not dock immediately due to turbulent sea conditions, which are now being resolved.
He expects the issue to be settled by late afternoon. Fauzul Kabir Khan requested the factory management to provide an update by evening on any improvement in gas availability.
Shahadat Hossain, Director of Towel Tex Limited, mentioned that gas shortages have intensified this month, and while the factory does not demand continuous supply for 24 hours, at least 8 hours of gas daily is essential.
The visit was attended by Titas Gas MD Parvez Ahmed, Secretary of the Energy Ministry Saiful Islam, Chairman of the Rural Electrification Board Major General Azim, and other officials.
