Justice Shamsul Huda Manik dies, Shamsuddin Manik mistakenly reported

Confusion arose on Monday after widespread rumors claimed that former Justice A.H.M. Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik had passed away.

However, prison authorities have confirmed that the report is false and that he remains in good health while in custody at Kashimpur Central Jail-2.

In reality, it was retired Supreme Court Appellate Division Justice Shamsul Huda Manik, aged 82, who passed away late Sunday night at a cardiac hospital in Dhaka due to age-related complications.

The mix-up appears to have been caused by the similarity in their names. Clarifying the matter, a senior prison official reiterated that Justice A.H.M. Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik is alive and currently being held in prison.

He has been in custody since August 24 of last year, following his arrest by the Border Guard Bangladesh near the Sylhet border while allegedly attempting to flee to India.

His arrest came shortly after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 during a mass uprising led by students and citizens.
