Nasir Uddin Nasir, the General Secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, has warned that if the government fails to protect students and the public from the banned Chhatra League, the streets will once again be filled with protestors, just like during the July-August uprising.
Chhatra Dal, he says, is ready to take action to stop the violent actions of Chhatra League and ensure safety for the people.
In a Facebook post on Thursday (January 30), Nasir spoke out about the situation, saying,
"The two thousand or more people who died for freedom during the July-August uprising were not all killed by police or government forces. The real killers were the members of Chhatra League, a banned terrorist group, who openly used firearms to kill many innocent people. During the uprising, Chhatra League followed the orders of the fugitive killer Hasina and became the executioners of the fascist regime. Before these killings, Chhatra League was responsible for many other murders, from Worldajit to Abrar. Even terrorist groups did not kill as many people as Chhatra League did."
Nasir criticized the interim government for doing little more than placing a nominal ban on Chhatra League without taking any real action to bring those responsible for the killings to justice.
"The government has not arrested any of Chhatra League`s top leaders or terrorist members," he said. "Because of this failure, Chhatra League has had the courage to openly declare their political activities."
He also pointed out that the government’s failure to act against the killers has allowed them to resurface.
“The government must take responsibility for preventing Chhatra League`s activities, both official and secret. The safety of the students and the public is in their hands,” Nasir said. “If the government fails to do this, the students and public will once again hit the streets, just like in July and August, to stop Chhatra League.”
Nasir ended his post with a strong commitment. "Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal is dedicated to preserving the success of the people’s revolution, which was achieved through the blood of martyrs like Abu Saeed, Wasim Akram, Mugdho, Rabbie, Riya Gop, Ridoy Taruya, and thousands of others.
We are inspired by the sacrifices made by the martyrs of July and August, and we are ready to make any sacrifice for this cause. Inshallah."
