Election Commissioner Mohammad Anwarul Islam Sarker has confirmed that preparations are underway for the parliamentary elections, which are expected to be held in December.
He assured that the schedule for the elections would be announced at the appropriate time.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, February 23, at the Election Commission office in Agargaon, Dhaka, Commissioner Anwarul Islam stated, "The Election Commission is working towards holding the parliamentary elections in December. We will announce the schedule at the right time, well before the elections."
He clarified that the Election Commission would not be influenced by anyone in deciding when to announce the schedule.
"The schedule will not be adjusted to suit anyone`s convenience," he added.
Responding to concerns about potential external pressure, the commissioner emphasized that the Election Commission would remain independent.
"There is no pressure on the Election Commission. We will not bow down to any pressure," he said firmly.
